The Weaver's Trade 
December 1, 2007-November 1, 2008

 

The Weaver’s Trade exhibit - December 1, 2007 through November 1, 2008. The exhibit portrays the weaver’s trade that was an essential craft in late eighteenth to mid nineteenth Pennsylvania German rural communities in southeastern Pennsylvania. The exhibit includes a re-creation of an eighteenth century Pennsylvania German weaver’s shed with an original eighteenth century Pennsylvania German two post floor loom warped for weaving along with the spooling rack, warping mill and other equipment and textiles. A bedroom setting with a rope bed and blanket chest displays woven coverlets and other textiles from the Mennonite Heritage Center and private collections. Exhibit sponsors include the Pennsylvania Humanities Council, Byers’ Choice LTD, Hiram and Mary Jane Hershey, Harleysville National Bank, Harleysville Savings Bank and Richter’s Drafting & Office Supplies Co., Inc., Lake Clemmer, Dan & Shirley Lapp.
